Shoes and accessories for conscious consumers

These days, consumers are careful about where they spend their money. They want to support brands with solid values; brands that care about the world we share.

US brand Toms certainly cares. So much so, its social entrepreneur founder, Blake Mycoskie, is something of a celebrity in the States. In 2011, he was one of Fortune Magazine’s ‘40 Under 40’ businessmen of the world. He featured in Bill Gates Time Magazine article, ‘How to Fix Capitalism’. And former US president Bill Clinton once called him “one of the most interesting entrepreneurs (I’ve) ever met.”

So why did Blake start Toms? While travelling in Argentina, he was dismayed to see so many kids walking barefoot. They owned no shoes. He thought it would be great to start a shoe company that would match each purchase with a pair of shoes for someone in need.

This ‘one for one’ business model is what makes Toms unique. Each time you buy from their accessories, handbags, eyewear and shoes, proceeds go to someone in need.

So far, TOMS Shoes has provided over 60 million pairs of shoes to children since 2006 – and counting. They also support other causes, like providing safe water in vulnerable communities and safe birth services to mothers.

Apart from the feel-good factor, the products themselves are pure class. Go here for quality loafers, slippers, men’s and women’s shoes and boots, and cute styles for kids. There’s even a vegan range, for those who require a super clear conscience.
